With the onslaught of meal replacement bars, how do you know which ones are right for you? It can get confusing. SlimFast bars are considered energy bars, so what does that mean? Basically an energy bar means that it has calories. Calories are converted to energy, therefore the calories in the SlimFast bars are used for just that. They also throw in some vitamins to boost it up. Not personally my choice of bars, but they do taste good.
Protein bars tend to be bars with a bonus. They contain vitamins and minerals that you need to get through the day, plus have a protein boost to fuel your muscles when you are done working out (or when you need a meal replaced). American Body Building nutrition makes great tasting protein bars and they are relatively inexpensive.
Snickers makes a candy bar called a Marathon bar. This is just a juiced up Snicker’s bar with a touch of extra protein. This is not a bad bar for those that are hiking miles in the great outdoors and need lots of calories to keep moving.
Fiber bars sound gross, but are really not a bad choice. Fortunately, they don’t taste like you’re chewing on a tree anymore. The National Cancer Institute would like to see all Americans getting between 20-30 grams of fiber a day. Any fiber bar worth its weight should have a minimum of 3 grams of fiber. Luna and Clif bars are great-tasting and have a decent amount of fiber, protein, and vitamins in them.
Whatever your goal is for a meal replacement bar, there are so many choices that you just need to read labels and make wise choices. Enjoy!!
